Lakewood Village has one shopping plaza within its borders, located at the corner of Lawrence Expressway and Lakehaven Drive. This shopping plaza opened in 1959 and was originally called Dick's Lakewood Center, named after Dick's Supermarket, it's anchor store. Dick's closed in 2001, after more than forty years serving the community, but the New Wing Yuan Market has opened in its place. Lakewood Shopping CenterThe plaza has at times contained various stores including restaurants, liquor stores and bars, barber shops and beauty salons, dry cleaners, and variety/hardware stores. Adjacent to the plaza are a 24-hour gas-only station and a full service gas station.

Just beyond the edge of Lakewood Village, at Fairwood and Wildwood Avenues, is a small shopping strip with a 7-11 convenience store, restaurant, bar, and liquor store. Across Calabazas Creek, near Mission College in Santa Clara, is a large commercial complex called The Mercado. The Mercado is composed of a variety of restaurants, plus various other establishments including a computer store, a 24-hour Kinko's, and a cinaplex (see below).

For those who dislike driving and/or shopping, both Safeway.com and Albertsons.com deliver groceries to Lakewood Village residents for a nominal delivery charge.

Recreation and Entertainment

Lakewood Village is situated near several recreation and entertainment attractions. The most prominent attraction is Paramount's Great America theme park in Santa Clara. Great America has many amusement rides, an IMAX theater, musical shows and concerts, and other activities typical of a theme park. One of the benefits of living in Lakewood Village is being able to see Great America's fireworks displays from your home. Some residents can watch the fireworks without even going outside, but many others can get a good view from their yard or rooftop. Recently, however, they have discontinued fireworks displays.

Next to Baylands Park is the Twin Creeks Sports Park, a commercial park that offers softball and soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts, a large clubhouse, and other facilities.

The Mercado shopping center contains a 20-screen first-run AMC cinaplex theater. Other nearby attractions include the Intel Museum, an annual air show at Moffett Field, and legendary Fry's Electronics (whose original store was just across the freeway from Lakewood Village).
