Sounds like you need floating palettes as are commonly used on the Mac
and Windows. I know of no way of doing this with mwm, nor is this
capability mentioned in the ICCCM, nor have I seen any other
application that can do this on X (hint: XSetTransientForHint doesn't
qualify, since that only works WRT a single window, and causes modal
behavior with some window managers).

But this would be *really* nice to have, so if anyone knows how (or
even if) this can be done, please send a note to support@metacard.com
with a pointer to the source of your information.
