Sound w/ MC1.4b1?

I am working on an HP700 system and have been able to use the play
command with MC1.3a6 and get it to work, but not with 1.3 and 1.4b1.
The patches are installed and the chirp disappeared, but I get no
sound. From the message box I executed the following with MC1.4b1:

set playDestination to internal
set playLoudness to 50
play <filename> [this sound file works with MC1.3a6]

Any other HP700 users getting the play command to work?
