If one thinks Java is intended only to provide smooth animation,
considerable more research is needed. The purpose of Java is to
implement software universal to all operating systems. With the Java
interpreter, one need not worry about whether the software is DOS, MAC,
UNIX, or whatever. Ultimately, it will mean specialized, inexpensive
applets will replace the expensive software being made today. Java is
the beginning of an entirely new, exciting wave of computing.
