can't calibrate Zoomer digitizer

My Zoomer has been sitting on the shelf for a while now and I really
want it back. It got put on the shelf after I became very frustrated
trying to get the digitizer to correctly calibrate.

The symptom: the digitizer (OK, ink in Notepad) correctly tracks the
pen on a horizontal line across the lower half of the screen. In the
upper half of the screen the digitizer tracks ok on the left edge
but as I draw horizontally to the right the ink moves diagonally up
the screen. At the right edge it is off by a centimeter or more.
(There isn't a sharp boundary between "upper half" and "lower half";
the mis-track just gets progressively worse as you move up the screen.
Drawing a vertical line on the right edge is pretty wild!)

By playing around with the calibrate tool (clicking not in the center
of the boxes but above or below them) I can almost make the upper right
quadrant of the screen useable. But not quite.

As best I can tell the thing went out of calibration all-of-a-sudden,
rather than a slow decline. I haven't (yet) done anything wild,
such as munging GEOS.INI myself.

Is there a home remedy to this problem, or is my Zoomer destined
for a trip to the hospital?

A similar problem - can't recalibrate - was asked here in July and
December of last year by two other people. No solution was posted
at that time. The first poster had done a complete reset (A&B
buttons & memory backup reset to no avail.) Some suggested editing
the calibration info in GEOS.INI directly.

Thanks,
