The same thing happened to me the first 3 times I tried the expert mode upgrade. It took some trial and error to get it right. I got real tired of resetting my preferences. Even now I occasionally soft crash it. The expert mode is not for everyone as I was told. The "automatic upgrade" didn't ever work for me. I had to unzip and place the files myself.
