I've lost notebook files about 3 times in the last 4-6 months. Each time
the action was preceded by a "KR-xx" message followed by another that the
file was corrupted. In each case, I had to replace the file with a
backup version since I didn't have the time nor inclination to try and
fix the file (it that was even possible).
I let my kids use my Z regularly to play games (QuickShuffle is loaded on
my card..among others) and they tend to fill my B: drive with "state"
files. My GEOS.INI file is only modestly enhanced, with the most
prominent change being to "maxTotalHeapSpace=45000". Errors tended to
happen more frequently when that parameter was set to 55000 or 65000 or
when alot of apps (ie games) were used just prior to the failure.
My feeling is that I'm running into a low memory situation that results
in a file corruption during a file open/close operation. A soft reboot or
running a .BAT file to delete the state files seem to generally keep things
running smoothly.
Software (Palm-Notebook) can also be buggy...though I don't recall seeing
any postings about specific or known problems.
Since I make daily entries in my Z, I back up certain files on a daily
basis (FileManager/document view/drag NoteBook to C drive...this puts a
backup copy in the c:\ directory quickly). All my files are actually
already on my PC card in the appropriate "shadow" directories, so I'm not
normally wasting much internal memory (ie B: drive space is about 250K).
