Regarding:

"Please forgive my ignorance, but is there now documentation
"available for the files used by the Palm Utilities -- in
"particular the Note Book and Address Book ? I have an
"application in mind that takes data from Note Book pages and/or
"from Address Book entries.

I too would be interested in this. On a similar question I posted
earlier, (asking if there were any Geos IPC calls into Palm or Geos
tools that were documented.) I got the following reply from
Form Factor's "James J. Couball":

"2. I believe you need to get an API from Palm to get access to the palm apps
"databases such as the address book. Don't bother trying to figure this out on
"your own as it will lead to great frustration.

Clearly America On Line, got some information as it uses
Palm Address Book.

Good Luck, and post your findings.
