Subject: comp.binaries.geos passes
Status: OR
As you no doubt know by now, comp.binaries.geos has passed. For those
of you playing along at home, this means binaries (programs and whatnot)
for Zoomers and other GEOS platforms will have a distribution channel on
UseNet. I'd like to thank everyone who voted on it, and explain what's
going to happen with regard to it. This message is an edited version of
one posted to comp.os.geos, if you want the full text and the tentative
guidelines for comp.binaries.geos, please consult that message.
The submission address mentioned in the CFV will be created shortly, and
its existence will be announced on UseNet (and probably here). In the
meantime, I'll queue up any submissions sent to me, and post them when
the group becomes available at my site (which should be within a week).
I'll also field any questions mailed to me.
I don't expect the group to be gatewayed to a mailing list, since binary
groups can generate nasty amounts of traffic - potentially even more
than those ever-present PDA contest announcements. ;) However, if you
have the resources and know-how to set up an archive site with a mail
server, you've got my blessings, and I'll even mention it in the CBG-FAQ
if you want. I'll also be doing what I can to make sure GEOS binaries
are available from oak.oakland.edu and the SimTel mirror sites.
Again, please note that the submission address is _not_ active yet, and
please address any questions or submissions directly to me in the
interim. Thanks again for the support!
