I'm not sure what to call it either. I thought maybe "hole" was a good
starting place, and so naturally I looked it up. And I quote:

"Definition for: hole
  a cavity; squalid place"

Squalid, eh? What do they think I have, a Newton? :-)
Maybe another word would be better...:

"Synonyms for: hole
(n) opening, crack, leak, puncture;
    void, blank, cavity, crack, depression,
    emptiness, gap, hollow, nook, opening,
    space"

Depresssion ... emptiness ... maybe this wasn't such a good idea
after all.

To answer your question, no the "full sized pen" definitely won't fit
in whatever that place is where the other pen fits.
