Well- I've had my upgraded Zoomer for a little over a week and here are some
observations and cautions.
1. I have a stacked PCMCIA 10 MB SunDisk (ATA112NL11) and the upgraded
Zoomer has a hard time writing large files to it. I seem to be able
to read and execute from the card with no problem. Any sustained writes
to the card will fail. So, unless the file is small (under 15K or so)
there is no way to load anything onto your PCMCIA RAM card without
another (slow) Zoomer or a notebook computer w/PCMCIA. Copying files
to the Zoomer internal memory works- and you can copy from the internal
memory to the PCMCIA card with a greater probability of success.
2. I experienced my first address book corruption ever. I store my address
book on B: (internal) and it's about 95K. I believe the corruption was
caused by my tinkering (and subsequent crash) related to moving files to
and from the PCMCIA card. Still- it's the first data corruption I've had
in my two years of Zooming.
I haven't given up on it yet and will report any successes or failures. The
faster speed is worth trying to figure out some way to live with or fix the
problems I've experienced. I would be interested in the experiences of other
speed upgraded Zoomers!
As always, make plenty of frequent backups!
