GWRepDoug is right, and it is not the best documented, but some of the commands for Graffitti are different if you are not writing inside the input box. Check the command card in the back of your manual or the on-line help in the OG. Writing outside of the input box, you must actually use a stroke, as opposed to tapping for punctuation.
