Lithiums were originally developed for our photgrapher friends. The advantages of lithiums is that they have a strong solid current for a longer time than alkaline - thus if you are using them for a flash - (on a camera, not ram) it will recharge the flash quicker. The disadvantages are a higher cost and once they start to go dead, they go fast. Lithiums basically run at full power and then die, alkalines run at full power, slowly discharging until they die - the current from an alkaline will slowly decrease - not so with a lithium. You can find them in photo departments of most discount dept stores, - usually the cheapest place to buy them as well. $4-5 a pair.
