If the NEC Ultralite has been left off too long and
looses the information on drive C:

1. Reboot from D: Ctrl+Alt+Fn+Del

Then using the Manager program on D:

2. Initialize Hard Disk

3. Format System Hard Disk

4. [optional] To save space on C:

a. Modify the cluster size using a disk editor such
as found in the Norton utilities (this tip from
Sy Ali's memo of 2 may 91)

UL 1 MEG UL 2 MEG

Offset Old --> New Old --> New
------ ----------- -----------
13 08 02 08 02
22 01 03 02 08

b. Reboot again (off a floppy?)

c. Reformat C: again with D:FORMAT C: /S

5. Copy working files back onto C:

6. [optional] To save a little space on C:

a. Put the following line in C:\CONFIG.SYS

shell=D:\COMMAND.COM D:\ /P

b. Delete C:\COMMAND.COM

c. Reboot yet again.
