A note to users of external battery packs for the UltraLite:
It is a good idea to unplug your battery pack when you are through computing.
The UltraLite presents a parasitic load of about 55 mA even when turned
off--probably somethng in the battery check circuit. This would run down 8 AA
cells in about 20 hours--flat dead. This would be bad for Renewals, which are
shallow-cycle batteries.
On the other hand, if you are worried about the low battery light staying on,
it is probably O.K. LED's listed in the Radio Shack catalog range from 5 mA
low-current through 10 mA standard to 20 mA high-brightness. Don't think this
is worth the danger of cutting an LED lead so close to the motherboard (the
leads are long and it is possible). For mine, I just put a piece of a black
write-protect label over the word "low," so now it is a "battery" light that
reminds me I am running off batteries!
