I just received a letter and a pre-stamped mailing bag from Vickie Rickard
at NEC in Boxborough MA. Here is the text of that letter:

> I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to you for the
>inconveniences you have experienced with the battery sent to you through
>our battery recall.

> I have enclosed packaging for the return of the defective batteries that
>you received. Once I receive these batteries I will replace them as quickly
>as possible. We are currently out of stock on the PC-17-86 batteries but
>anticipate receiving more within the month of June (?).

> Thank you for your patience and again I apologize for your
>inconvenience.

> Sincerely,

> Vickie M. Rickard,
> Program Manager

So it would appear that they know that these new batteries are N.F.G.
and hopefully are burning the asses of the sub-contractor that made them.
There may be hope for us UltraLite lovers yet!

If you are pissed off at them, call the Battery Hotline and COMPLAIN! If they
hear from us often enough and we're mad enough they will pay attention. They
don't know whether we paid $3,000.000 for these things in 1988 or 800.00 in
1991 or $125.00 in 1993. DON'T LET UP ON THEM UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED!

The battery hotline number is 1-800-237-2913.
