The first alpha-test version of MetaCard 2.1 is now available via
anonymous FTP from ftp://ftp.metacard.com/MetaCard/2.1A1. This
release includes an engine for Windows 95 and Windows NT, supporting
cross-platform GUI development and multimedia authoring. While there
are significant features that are not available on the Windows 95/NT
platform yet, the design goal is to be able to run your MetaCard
applications under Windows 95 and NT without modifications (HyperCard
stacks can also be imported and run with the Windows engine, though
they'll require more tweaking to get them looking right).
This release includes a new tabbed-dialog development environment that
is only slightly more than a prototype at this point. We're open to
suggestions about how to improve this interface.
Before using this release be sure to read the file README.2.1A1 for
important warnings and details of which features remain to be
implemented. Only the following engines have been built for this
release: SPARC, SPARCSVR4, HP9K700, IRIS, Linux, and of course WIN32
for Windows 95/NT.
