This may not be related to the slowing down but...
I have heard that there is an updated driver related to file systems on
PCMCIA cards. I'm not sure of all the details, maybe someone else is
knowledgeable and can enlighten both of us. It just rang a bell when
you mentioned crash, lost files and SRAM card.
