Hi,
Check out the Zoomer FAQ here on the PDA forum. It has a list of vendors and prices for cables, and pcmcia stuff. For the cheapest connection to your PC you need Zdos. It's in the Zoomer Upgrade zip file.

If you need assistance with your Zoomer, don't hesitate to ask.

My PC uses com port 4 for DOS transfers. Form Factor only recognizes com1 & 2. Any suggestions? I'd like to be able to use the send recieve functions without having to use geomanager drap and drop.

Hi,
I believe that this setting will fix your problem:
At the dos prompt type:
SET PTTY=4,19200

Then run Windows and FormFactor. This setting forces the file transfer utilities to use com4 at 19200 baud.

Let me know if this works.

Hi: I am sure everyone already knows this, but I've not seen any posting yet on the New Files section:

BookReader is available in the Geoworks forum. I loaded on my Zoomer along with the Read Me First book and it works and looks great.

Let's hope we see some books for the Zoomer come out SOON! I have been very disappointed by the lack of software titles available for the Zoomer (relative to the Newton), and I hope that I am not similarly disappointed with what happens with Bindery and Bookreader. Take care, ray

There is a small group of people that currently have Bindery.
- If there is something that Zoomer owner's are looking for in Reader Format, we can start a new folder or post your needs/wants here...
We can share the list and see if we can't get what you want in Bindery/Reader format..

I did a search for book reader and 35 selections came up, none of them appeared to be the right one. Do you have another description or name in the goeworks forum?

Posted on: System

I can't find the Book Reader program. Is it in the Geoworks forum?

Posted on: System

Hi: Yes, BookReader is in the Geoworks forum. I think it is still in the New Uploads area. Maybe we could get one of our wonderful PDA folks to put it here in the Zoomer area!??! Take care. ray

The Book Reader and required system files are (currently) in the Geoworks Forum Library, New Files/Upload library.
They will be moved to the Geoworks Files library folder in the near future.
I'll ask Steve to see if it's OK to place a copy in this library as well (Since it does contain Geoworks files).

I've been thinking about buying the graffiti handwriting program? does anyone have it? do you like it? love it? hate it? and why?

Posted on: System

This is my opinion. The Zoomer is a frustrating high tech toy without Grafitti. The Zoomer is a business tool with Grafitti. Whatever price you pay for your Zoomer you should add in Grafitti to complete your package.

I sat in a meeting today and took notes as fst as I could write. AND I wasn't looking at the screen (so no one thought I was playing solitaire) When I did look down, there was my page of notes, typed neatly and without an error. It is as impressive as they say. And the Zoomer version is more versatile than the newton version.

Graffiti is a MUST HAVE don't leave home without it addition to the Zoomer.

Have had Graffiti for a week or so and I can take notes as fast as I could write before. It is the best thing since sliced bread and makes using the Zoomer feasible for a person with less than 20/20 vision who cant see the little keyboard too clearly. BUY IT!

What else is there to say..

Pay your money and gets the software..
- You will need a Zoomer Cable for the install..

I concurr on Graffiti. I have it loaded and have found it easy to learn.

Is graffitti only for notes or does it work with other zoomer software such as quicken or the address book?

Graffiti replaces the character recognition throughout the unit... any place where text can be entered, Graffiti is available, including the Notepad, the Addressbook, Pocket Quicken, etc.

The only thing I've had trouble with is the calculator. Since the keyboard won't come up in the calc. mode it's difficult to switch to number mode. Guess you'll have to use the on screen calc's keyboard.

I've heard enough!!! How much and where can I get it. I'm also interested in the cable to connect to a PC and a modem (I've heard the credit-card type are good). Anyone have some good info for a relative beginner?

Posted on: System

Order Graffiti direct from Palm Computing or (if you have to) special order from your local Radio Shack.
As to modem types, the choice is up to you. A PCMCIA modem card is great but it has two big disadvantages... 1) it'll run you a good $150- $250 to find one that'll run on the zoomer (2400 buad/ low power) and 2) you won't be able to use a PCMCIA memory card. You can switch between them, but that gets to be a pain, and you end up carrying as much stuff as you would if you just had a pocket external modem.

I just got a flyer from PDA direct at 1-800-279-4732 EXT 113 showing Graffiti on a SUPER BLOWOUT PRICE of 58.95. The ad show for the newtons but you could call and see if they honor that price for the Zoomer
