Hi Zoomer users,
I found that CompuServe now has a Zoomer interface! It gives you access to the news, stock quotes, weather, and CompuServe Mail.
I checked with CompuServe and to get your copy call 1-800-848-8990 ext. #3, tell them you are an AOL member and ask if they have any programs to "steal you away from AOL":-) They will send you their CIS interface kit for free and you get a $25 credit. Now use this CIS interface to get the Zoomer interface. It's in the GO CISSOFT area and it has a $10 charge to download it, of course you do then get a $10 credit on that account so it's all really free.
In talking to the sales lady it sounds like it is a 'CIS Lite', like the AOL Lite, but the nice thing about it is that e-mail is in the 'Basic Services' (included with the $8.95/month fee). So there is no 1 min. penalty to signon and check to see if you have mail like here.
As with AOL Lite I wouldn't go downloading files from the libraries with the Zoomer interface (actually I don't know if you can on either service but...), get an automated offline reader like OzCIS (GO OzCIS) to do your uploading, downloading and board logging. They also have a PDA area GO PalmB for Zoomer users, you might want to check that out. For you Zoomer developers the SDK forum is GO GEOSSDK, but you need to e-mail GW Steve here so he can set the software to let you in that area.
I'm still saving up for my Zoomer but I'd be interested to know what others think of this new interface. It's free so check it out for me and post back here:-)
Thanks,
