I don't think the Zoomer's developers are really the ones who should take
the blame - as I understand it, GEOS itself wasn't set up for XIP until
version 2.1. Yes, GEOS was designed to run on desktops, PDA's,
dishwashers, you name it, but until the Zoomer, it had really only been
running on desktops, where XIP just isn't really a factor.
I don't think XIP was really that commonplace on PDA's when the Zoomer
came out - heck, mass-market PDA's weren't that commonplace! :) - and
I think Geoworks learned a lot about the nuances of PDA's (and the PDA
market) with the Zoomer. The OmniGo demonstrates their first response
- XIP - and future PDA's based on GEOS 3.0 will sport enhancements in
the communications department as well.
But then, that's how software matures.
