Here is more info on Bindery:
Electronic Book Authoring System
Geoworks Bindery is a graphical publishing tool which lets anyone easily
create electronic books for use on consumer computing devices (CCDs) running
the GEOS operating system. It will allow content providers, software
developers, and corporate information managers to publish customized,
electronic information quickly and easily using a desktop PC.
Geoworks Bindery permits the author to intelligently structure and organize
each book, richly format the text and graphics, and obtain a high degree of
interaction between the reader and the content. Geoworks Bindery is designed
to be so easy to use that anyone can put together their own electronic
books.
End users view finished documents with the Geoworks Book Reader. The Book
Reader provides the navigation, search, and printing features necessary to
use an electronic book. Geoworks Bindery and Book Reader work with any
GEOS-based device, so that electronic books can be created for mobile
devices like the Casio/Tandy Z-Series personal digital assistants
(PDAs), the Sharp PT-9000 tablet, and future GEOS-based devices.
Geoworks Bindery Features
o Format documents with full-featured word processor and drawing
program. No programming is required of content publishers to produce
electronic books quickly and easily.
o Structure documents using hyperlinking, graphical hot spots, and rich
formatting. These features enable books to have rich display and
highly structured content.
o Import existing content and compose new material. New titles can
become available quickly by leveraging existing properties.
o Once in electronic book form, content reformats itself for the
consumer's specific viewing device. Using Geoworks patented flexible
user interface technology, titles created on one platform can also be
distributed for any other GEOS platform.
o View features are fully controllable. The author controls the
consumer's interaction with the content by tailoring the viewer
features to the content. The document can be easily navigated, making
information more accessible to the consumer.
Geoworks Bindery can be used to create many kinds of electronic books, for
consumer use or vertical markets. Because Geoworks Bindery can deliver
content on mobile platforms, content that needs to be accessible outside of
the home or office is especially appropriate. Content applications may
include:
travel guides, directories, catalogs
reference works, technical documentation
consumable information such as newspapers or magazines
interactive advertisements
mobile manuals for field personnel
literature, including new "hypertext novels"
database information
System Requirements
Geoworks Bindery development requires an IBM-compatible personal computer
(386SX or better) with MS-DOS, minimum 4 Mb RAM, 10 Mb free hard disk space,
floppy drive, VGA monitor, and mouse.
The GEOS Software Development Kit (SDK) is not required.
Geoworks Bindery is available for $29 through January 31, 1996 (regularly
