IrDA Infrared on Zoomers?

Has anyone heard mention of implementing the IrDA (Infrared Data Association)
standard on Zoomers? Does anyone know if it is possible with the present
ROM/uart setup on the AST/Casio/Tandy Zoomers?

Based on my (very) limited understanding of the situation I would speculate
that some fairly intense, systems-level code would be required even if the
hardware is suitable and configured in an appropriate way. But, I don't claim
to be well informed on the board-level specs of our zoomers or the needs of
the IrDA system as yet.

Have the folks at Palm offered up (or even discussed) any software for data
interchange with non-Zoomer systems using the infrared port?
