include for "only $99" ? >>>
- This question has a short and a long answer, I'll try to shoot for
something in the middle.. I do have to say for your $99.00 you get what would
cost you close to $500 from IBM or $900 from NeXT.
-- Documentation on the GEOS operating system and developing for this Object
Oriented Operating System covers over 3,000 pages of documentation. The
CD-ROM has this documentation available in three formats ASCII, PostScript,
and Adobe Acrobat.
-- The Installation and Tutorial software included will help the new users
connect the two computers [Your development machine and your Target] and get
things up and working for the developer.
-- The need to know "C" fairly well is a prerequisit. Though how your program
is structured is different from what you would be used to (for the most
part). But, the development Tools within the SDK are very helpful here.
-- The SDK itself will take you through the process and using your code to
make Error Coded versions and final versions of your GEODEs.
-- SWAT one of the most robust debugging tools I've seen or read about. The
tools within SWAT will give you the data you need to find out where your
program is going awry and help you get things going in the right direction.
-- Emulations, the SDK will help you target you application for a specific
hardware platform as it provides emulators for the Desk-top, Zoomer's, and
PT-9000's (current supported hardware configurations).
-- Support, you can get user focused (and assisted) technical support is
available on Compuserve (Fee Based Support) and AOL under the Geoworks area.
The AOL area ins't the main area for support, but your questions will get
answered (if you don't mind other users of the SDK offering advice too.
Hope this helps you make your decision.
- Your target machine can be as simple as an AT class machine with 2MB of
RAM...
