Zoomer Background

Doug:

I'm having no success with your suggestion, can you help?

>Anyway, here's the procedure:

>1) make a \geoworks\userdata\backgrnd directory (I put mine on a SRAM card)

Done, but I put mine in b:\GEOWORKS\USERDATA\backgrnd

Question: why is this directory significant? (I suspect the
ui looks in this specific directory, but you didn't say).

2) copy your favorite background to it (assuming you have desktop GEOS)

>From what you say later, I assume a .gif file is a suitable
"background". I created such a .gif, in 320x256 format.

Mine is:
background=babef
backgroundattr = center
backgroundcolor = 8

[ I used another method; I simply created (using PhotoStyler) ]
[ a .gif for my background. Comments below. . . ]

>a) go to a Usenix conference and have your face added ...
>b) get your face from uunet
>c) run xface to see your face
>d) run xv to convert your face to some standard format (choosey
> mothers choose GIF)

[ I'm in "sync" at this point, having created my .gif file ]

>e) copy the GIF to a system running GEOS
>f) import the GIF image to the scrapbook
>g) copy to the clipboard
>h) run preferences, choose background, and choose get from clipboard
>g) save it and goto (1)

I assume e..g is a method, using GEOS, to create a "background"
file. I created one, a .GIF-formatted file. I further guess that
I need to convert this to some other format (while you might
be familiar with GEOS, many of us aren't, and I JUST DON'T
KNOW the nuances of the O/S). So, is my guess correct, and
is the fact that I did everything else okay not enough, and
I need to convert this .GIF to a GEOS-proprietary format?
My Zoomer boots, but never displays a background, and I've
been working on this, tweaking the GIF format, tweaking
case, etc., for HOURS. . . ! Not fun.

After playing with this, I'm guessing that there's a few
GEOS-specific items you didn't mention, and I hope you can
fill me in.

Thanks,
Dean
