The Zoomer uses the Geos VM file format, not ASCII text files, and the
Palm Organizer (Date Book, Address Book, and Note Book) data files
can only be read by applications coded with the specific data formats
used.
PalmConnect, the PC connectivity package for the Zoomer, provides
file linking with the ability to manage PDA and desktop files from both
the PDA and PC, and full mirroring of the Organizer applications on
the PC desktop, including both ink and text. Address book and
contact manager data from other software may be imported to the
PalmAddress application via comma-separated-value data files, and
ASCII text may be imported into Note Books via our Palm Utilities
package. You can back up and restore both data and any additional
application programs you add to your Zoomer
PalmConnect comes with its own Geos software, so you will not have
to install Geos separately on your PC. It provides the same Geos
windowing features whether launched from DOS or from MS Windows.
All of the system and application software on the Zoomer is in ROM.
In the event of a crash/hard reset, your Zoomer will recover
completely, less any data/software you have added. You should
back up frequently, especially if you modify your Geos system.
There have been many discussions of Zoomer modifications and
additions here on the Zoomer-list, as well as on CompuServe and
AOL PDA forums. There are also collections of downloadable
software on each of those networks.
Palm maintains its own support area on both AOL (keyword PALM)
and CIS (PalmtopB forum), and an FTP node at ftp.netcom.com
/pub/palm. You may also contact us directly regarding PalmConnect,
the Palm Utilities, and the Organizer software on the PDA by sending
email to SUPPORT@PALM.COM.
