Re: Battery problems solved, I hope

My .02 in regards to the battery thread.

I'm nearing my 3rd month of use on a set of lithiums after consistently
getting 1 month's use on each of 4 sets of alkalines...so they do last
longer!

The cost of the lithiums at a discount electronics store in L.A. was about
2 dollars per cell which is significantly higher than alkalines (and this
despite being the best price I could get for them...average was 3.50
per cell elsewhere). My reason for using lithiums was mostly out of
curiosity. Only when these puppies burn out will I know if they were
practical as well..alkalines sell for as little as .50 each (that's why
we still use them).

Notes about the power dropoff at the end being beneficial for zoomers should
be tempered with some caution about possibly getting only 1 battery low
warning before losing use of the zoomer as compared to alkalines which appear
to be somewhat forgiving in that respect. I should be finding out about this
in a couple of weeks (..or months I hope). This may be an issue for those
of you with flash-cards (and still haven't installed the Sundisk fix
mentioned in the FAQ).

Unrelated topic: This is probably old news to most of you, but postings in
comp.sys.palmtops recently mentioned a new source for cheap SRAM ($50/1 meg)
and a StarCard 2494f PCMCIA modem for $35. Both were reported to work with
the poster's zoomer so I ordered these from Surplus Technology Group,
(214) 224-7906. Flashcards were also mentioned, though their compatibility
with zoomers were not confirmed.
