Graffiti is an essential.
An additional help for Zoomer owners is to get the desktop GEOS software.
It was originally called Ensemble, but is now NewDeal Office. GEOS users
were disappointed to learn that the Zoomer was not originally shipped with
the shareware demo of Ensemble, which would have been good for Zoomers and
for GeoWorks, Inc.
The shareware Ensemble (GeoPublish) can be found by following some of the
links at http://members.aol.com/nfiedler or look at the Geos2x directory
of one of the Simtel software archives.
The shareware NewDeal Office (NewPublish) is somewhere at
http://members.aol.com/geogermany, I think.
This desktop GEOS environment includes the file manager (an enhancement of
the Zoomer file manager), a full-featured word processor, text editor and
a scrapbook application. It also has a "file linking" feature for serial
file transfers with the Zoomer (although the DOS based file transfer
program ZDOS.COM is faster, this is more flexible).
An added bonus is that if you transfer files from the GEOWORKS/SYSTEM
directory of the Zoomer into the PC (e.g. c:\newpubl\system), avoiding
overwriting, you can get the Zoomer apps to work on the PC in the desktop
GEOS environment. Now you can update files using a keyboard and fast
processor speeds, then load the files back on the Zoomer for handheld
access. Not as slick as the quick synch of the Pilot, but pretty nice.
