the best thing to do is to go this mailing-list archive at :
http://www.grot.com/zoomer/zoomer-list/archives.html

It seems that it is risky (see Chris de Herrera note), but after a while,
somme people did a "speed improvement" by sending there unit to the
following address :

Electronics Innovations
1149 East Desert Inn Road #9001
Las Vegas, NV 89109
USA

It looked like they only changed the crystal.

Subject: Re: Casio Zoomers to blossom with enhancements

Hi,
Unfortunately, the Zoomer CPU is a COMPLETE PC on a chip! This means that
it
is based on the V20 CPU with PCMCIA, Serial, LCD Controller and EMS
Extensions in hardware.

The system CAN'T be just "bumped up" by changing the clock crystal due to
the
interfaces to the 3 to 5v converters required for the serial IO and the
Infrar
ed. Also the crystal is used to drive the whole system internally via a
clock splitter!

AGAIN, AN UPGRADE WOULD REQUIRE A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE MOTHERBOARD,
AND THE RAM/ROM DAUGHTER CARD! Also, I suspect that it WON'T pass FCC
Class
B requirements either at that speed!

Sounds like sensible.
But after that Sue Dolezal wrote :

No it wouldn't! If casio made a custom-made chip, which is what I have
been saying all along, then YOU JUST PLUG IN A NEW CRYSTAL AND CPU.
And of course, the CPU would be the "computer on a chip", just like the
original CPU. Really, it wouldn't be hard, nor expensive for such a
low-end processing unit.

And finally there is a company which did such speed improvements on the
Zoomer :
