During the development of the Zoomer, around Geoworks it seemed like we lost
every pen for every prototype or early production Zoomer that we had. There's
nothing special about the Zoomer pen, however... any sufficiently sharp/blunt
object made of wood or plastic will do, as long as it doesn't scratch the
screen.
A favorite substitute was a chopstick. Folks sharpened tinker toys and other
pieces of wooden dowel. Other folks took the caps of Bic pens and sharpened
them or heated them to reshape them appropriately. Some people took to using
their thumbs and others let a fingernail grow. Still others grabbed a small
branch from a bush out in the flowerbeds around the office. Qtips, straws,
coffee stirrers, plastic doll arms ripped out of their sockets, wooden
skewers, combs with pointed handles, and more... I've seen all these things
used as a stylus for the Zoomer. And of course, there are companies that
specialize in making high end styluses, for executive use.
