If the slot is recognized (Check under device manager, it should be one of
the few things in life
that is truly PnP), then you may need to add two lines to your config.
After that it should load the SRAM
driver on the fly so it is not resident if there is no card inserted
(pretty nifty even if it is from the evil empire).

Instead of my floundering around trying to explain it, the simplest thing
is just click on the Help icon in the start menu,
select troubleshooting, then trouble installing PCMCIA drivers. It should
automatically walk you through and if everything else checks out OK it will
list exactly the lines which need to be added. If memory serves me correct
the only thing which
didn't seem clear at first was the /slots=X switch. X turns out to merely
be the total number of PCMCIA slots. (Typically 1 or 2 on most laptops).
