Jake,

The adaptor doesn't deliver more current than is required by the Ogo to
maintain the 3V potential. It just needs to be rated to handle the
highest demand. Technically, you don't need the dowel to hook it up, but
that will make it much more convenient. Just make sure that you get good
connections to the terminals to avoid voltage drops across the
junctions.
