It's probably due to the lower power production of batteries in cold weather. The more active the reaction, the less sensitivity to cold, so I would suggest lithium batteries. Perhaps someone has some actual measurements?

Subject: OmniGo in cold

(Posted immediately after my question about backing up to UNIX,
since they are unrelated, posted separately)

My OmniGo 100 manual says that if it gets under 32 degrees
farenheit, that it will start loosing data. I had hoped to
be able to use it outside while waiting for the bus in the
wintertime (I'm in Boston, so it's not Florida, but it's not
Minnesota either (might get down to zero, I guess, not sure,
I'm new here).

And if there are problems, is there anything that I can do to
lessen any risks (this ties in with my other question -- backups
obviously come to mind).

In Christ,
Michael
