Time change, modems, screen protectors & portable lights

You can tell I haven't written for a while by the number of subjects.

1. I wrote at the end of September that my Omnigo 100 asked to let it change the
time. Finally decided that it had gotten confused while I was in Europe and I
reset it and synchronized everything. Then last week, at the proper time, it
asked me again. I said yes and the time went an hour ahead instead of back. Oh
well, I guess I'll have to wait until spring to see what it does then.

2. I walked into my local used computer store several weeks ago and picked up a
GUC 964824 PC card fax/modem for $5 (with 2 adapters and software). I tried it
out with OGComm and it worked fine except that I could see the battery level
dropping. I'm working on an AC adapter. If I had the specs and some help, I
would try to do a fax program. Has anyone tried it? Does one exist? Also, since
I have experience doing software for protocol converters, I would consider
working on a VT100, etc. terminal emulator if I had something to start with.

3. I bought a pack of stick-on screen protectors for the Omnigo and am currently
on the first one. It was sort of hard to put on, and doesn't tame the glare as
much as I had hoped, but it seems like good protection. Anyone else tried them?

4. I also wrote some time ago about a laptop computer light Brookstone's had on
sale for $10. It uses 2 C batteries, mine is still on the original pair and I
can use my Omnigo (or read a book) in bed with it. I've even used it to
illuminate the insides of stereo equipment I've had to work on.
