The difference in free RAM is probably more attributable to "state" files
etc. Some files are
necessarily mirrored in RAM (or have pinters), but the overall OS and
software is the same.

You will undoubtedly get a million different answers to this one. For
myself the pen-based entry and Graffiti software is the distinguishing
feature of the OGO. If the pen operation is not high on your priority
list, I would definitely go with the LX, though 1mb gets eaten up quickly.
The LX is a DOS-based machine with built in apps that are much more
conducive to interfacing with PC programs. (123 based speadsheet etc.).
Nathan Fiedler (Blue Marsh), Joerg Polzfusz, Excess data, Marcus Groeber
and others have contributed frreware and shareware that make a huge
difference in the usability of the OGO. Michael Halleen Alessandro Valente
and others are working on improved terminal emulators etc. By far the
easiest way for me to back up and transfer data has been via PCMCIA card
and a combo floppy/PCslot on one of my workstations.
(disclaimer: These opinions are not necessarily my own and may be those of
small furry creatures running around inside my head.)
