to get a little more structure into the current "love-and-hate" thread, I'd
propose to start once again (after some more months of experience with the
device) collecting specific points of criticism in "wishlist" form - this might
also be helpful for ISVs to decide on what to concentrate their efforts on.
>From my perspective, it seems a good idea to separate points into those that can
be solved by software modifications (which can often be applied by third parties
and will also work for existing devices) and those that require hardware changes
by HP and can therefore only be realized in a new OmniGo design. (Of course,
some of the hardware gripes might also be open for add-on solutions...).
A separate section should probably be dedicated to wishes concerning the
Connectivity pack, because at least according to what I'm reading from the
contributions to this list PC conncetivity seems to be the most important single
troublespot in the current design... OTOH, this seems to be an area where a
third party addressing this need could quite easily become very popular among
the user community... ;-)
btw: If I remember correctly, the design of the Pilot's connectivity software
seems to be centered very much around a modular translator concept for various
applications - did anyone ever look into the possibility of adapting translators
using the interface required by the Pilot's connectivity application for use on
the OmniGo? This way, authors of translation software might be able to kill two
birds with one stone, so to speak...
