Hi,
First let me say that although I work for HP I have _absolutely_ nothing
to do with the design of the OmniGo and further know _nothing_ about that
design. Any opinions I express are mine and mine alone.
In seconding Chris's comments I'd like to say: Let's let the OG 120
actully be _officially_ _released_ and get the full specs and all the
facts out on the table before we bash it.
As most of you are well aware, design always requires tradeoffs. This
is true for all systems but I suspect that is even more true for PDA'a
in which power consumption, weight, speed, software, hardware features,
price, and time-to-market all have truly signigficant impacts.
Design is also not "linear". By that I mean that "seemingly little" changes
can be, in reality, quite difficult if not impossible to accomplish.
I.E. There may just NOT be the room on the motherboard, or the power, or the
time to do the design and test, etc.
Some Notes:
I note that the Pilot PDA has 128K, 512K and 1Meg ram options. (No PCMCIA)
Clip-n-go and Pocket Quicken in Rom will save the hassle of loading
or reloading them and also conserve ram.
Let's see what the complete OG 120 picture looks like in a couple of weeks!
And since none of us have any idea of the 120's design goals/challenges let's
not attack the designers because "our favorite" feature is not in the 120.
MHO only. My $.02.
Best Regards,
cc
