So far there doesn't seem to be a solution. Someone posted earlier
about having written a driver which allows more the 30 columns but I
don't think it has been made available anywhere and I don't know if
it will allow standard DOS or 95LX programs to display more than 30 cols.

I beg to differ. A Program like OGMODE currently seems to be the only
solution for viewing all 80 columns in a standard text mode DOS
application.
The following is not meant to be a flame or anything,
but if you think OGMODE "SUCKS", I think it would be more helpful to post
constructive criticism of what you dislike about the program.
IMHO, the last thing we need to do is discourage the people who are
spending their
time trying to write programs which would be useful to us OGO users.
