Yes, I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned earlier. You have to be running
GEOS on your OmniGo for the power-save to turn work. Also, believe it or not,
you can't turn the OmniGo off from DOS mode. Yes, the On/Off button doesn't
work in DOS mode. I believe that DOS mode for the OmniGo should be used
sparingly and only to perform a quick task. If you spend too long in DOS mode
you run the risk of running down the batteries, since you can't see the
battery indicator.

Oh, and yes, the battery level can be erratic. However, with alkaline
batteries you will see a general decreasing trend. Lithiums are more
dangerous because they kick out within an hour, and read as being full-charge
the whole time. And beware - the backup battery is also lithium and only
lasts briefly. You must change your batteries as soon as you can.
