Ogpower v. 1.0

Hi to you all.

I am sending a description of a utility I created that takes
care of power management of the OGO in DOS mode. I am not sending
out the exe itself, as it is against the rules of this list.
However if anybody from the OGO users will provide me with
a site address, I will happily upload it for general use
(I do not have enough time to design a web page).

Best regards,

The following utility will set the PMU (Power Management Unit)
of the VG230 in OmniGo DOS mode. It will allow automatic
switch off of the OGO after predefined period with possibility
of later activation using ON key (as in GEOS). Unfortunately
OFF key is not active yet (it would require a TSR, which this
utility is not).

1. Usage:

ogpower <option>

where option is a character as defined below.

<option> Function

d Display current contents of the VG230
PMU Timer registers.

l Set the low power mode.

m Set the medium power mode.

h Set the high power mode.

2. Description of the modes.

Low power mode.
---------------

Enter DOZE mode after 1/8 seconds of inactivity.
Enter SLEEP mode after 1 minute of DOZE mode.
Enter SUSPEND mode after 1 minute of SLEEP mode.
Turn off LCD after 1 minute of inactivity.

Return from suspend mode is possible by pressing
the OGO ON key.

Medium power mode.
------------------

Enter DOZE mode after 4 seconds of inactivity.
Enter SLEEP mode after 1 minute of DOZE mode.
ENTER SUSPEND mode after 2 minutes of SLEEP mode.
Turn off LCD after 2 minutes of inactivity.

Return from suspend mode is possible by pressing
the OGO ON key.

High power mode.
----------------

All timers are disabled. This mode is the default
mode of the VG230 in the OmniGo after reset. It is
the main reason of the tremendous power urge of the
OGO in DOS mode.

OGO does not suspend in this mode.

3. Notes:

Take care when entering GEOS from DOS after making
changes to power settings. I have had problems with
low power mode - the touch screen does not seem to
work at all. Setting the power mode to medium seems
to be ok. However OGO runs slower than usual in this
setting (possibly the power utilisation is lower as
well).

This utility has not been tested very well. Use at
your own risk. It works with DOS programs I use.
I have not tested it with communication programs
of any type. Please drop me a line if you have any
problems.
