My experience and outlook differ from Helmar's. I am not a programmer but I
find developing with the GEOS SDKs quite doable. Having done a number of
applications, I believe the challenges I experience are based on my lack of
programming knowledge, not problems with the SDK, hardware manufacturers, SDK
support, or users/market.

I've worked with various programming tools in Windows and OS/2, including
Delphi, VB through current, C++ of various origins through current, and I
can't say that working with the GEOS SDKs is a lot more difficult.

When the GEOS first appeared, there weren't a lot of developers to exchange
ideas and experiences with; at the same time, you could pick up snippets for
a lot of Windows stuff at many places. The situation for GEOS programmers has
changed since then. There's a lot of very useful snippets, full program
source code, samples and other guidance available that will help a new SDKer
to speedily get into productive programming.
