I posted a message on the nearly-impossible-to-use VAXNOTES on
XPI's computer, asking users what they would like out of the
MS-DOS software package (Where I think the most interest is, not
to shut out others!).. And, this is what I have come up with, as
well as others on the system.
For the MS-DOS Beta to become useable, the following wishes were
voiced:
o A User Interface. The current netnews type interface
is not very marketable to general XP users. What we
need is a package like XPI distributes, just with some
modifications/additions. Namely....
o RAM SUPPORT. Specifically, the ability to designate
chunks of XMS/EMS/EXT RAM to the software for
storage/processing functions. We all have different
systems, and different RAM ammounts. We should be
able to use as much as we want.
o KEYWORD SEARCH. This is an ABSOLUTE need. This can
be simple enough to just save articles with the
keyword, and get advanced as to save them to files,
different folders, etc. As well, strings should be
supported, the ability to say: "Save any article with
'foo' *AND* 'bar' in it."
o ASCII SAVE. The interface should allow F-Key
ability to save any article in straight ASCII.
o DISK USAGE. If RAM overflows with articles, save
overflow to a specified amount of hard disk space.
o SORT. Sort stories based on specified criteria.
For example, say, "Show me all the stories in the
order they arrived, or based on their time stamp,
etc."
These are the MAJOR wishes that I envision. I am hereby
designating myself as "Keeper of the MS-DOS Wishlist". Anyone
who has a wish for the MS-DOS version we are trying to develop
should contact me, and I will add it to the list. I will also
distribute the list to anyone upon request.
Comments/Ideas/Flames/Etc, Anyone?
