They charge cable companies for their feed I'd imagine - I mean, it's
a service that cable companies can offer to get people to subscribe (it's
the primary reason I got cable, that and the fact that I got rotten reception
of hte local PBS station and I wanted to tape a few series) so the cable
companies make money from it. They also earn revenue from the premium
services, of course. I doubt that it's mostly from individuals - businesses
and schools would be much steadier cash sources.

(also they're not all that huge a company - their suites are just a part
of one floor of a building, they employ, what, a few dozen people, tops?)
