Power plugs?

I unplugged my power plug from my Ultralite two days, and the inside assembly
of the computer's socket came out with it!!!!

I finally repaired it (kludge is a better word) by removing the square metal
sheath around the plug so I could see, gluing the plug back into it, and
then reassembling the computer.

It seems to work. Will this cause problems? What was the metal sheath put
in the computer for? I didn't want to send it to NEC even though I'm not
too hot at computer repairs since I didn't want to pay $100 to have a $100
computer fixed! ;-)
