Ultralite batteries

NEC claims that the Molicel battery has no memory effect.
However, I have heard that manufacturers of NiCd batteries
also claim that NiCds have no memory, despite a lot of
evidence to the contrary. My own experience seems to indicate
that it is better to run the battery down to where the
computer will no longer run, before recharging. I haven't
done extensive testing, since the batteries are neither cheap
nor easy to find, and I would rather not take a chance of
decreasing their capacity.

Also, has anyone ever had the NiCd (memory backup) battery
go dead? I am wondering whether I should try to get a
spare while they are still available.
