Even if you can't get to C: when you boot from D:, it might be worth
trying something like Norton's Disk Doctor to see if you can recover
some or all of the data. The C drive shouldn't have gone flat on you
unless you didn't charge it for a whole week or so, and so hopefully
it just got damaged (the bits, not the hardware). DOS is pretty dumb
about recovery from bad bits. I've found that NDD does a good job
of resurrecting data from the dead at least to the point where you can
copy it to a floppy or something and then do new format on the errant
drive.
