more progress on my problem with an external disk drive corrupting COM1

Well, after bouncing around between DAK and NEC and BSE (the author of
the disk driver), I got some new information. One of the support people
at BSE told me that their driver occasionally disables interrupts, and
that would cause problems with any COM1 driver which relies on interrupts.
Their recommendation was that I use "older programs like the old ProComm
instead of what I'm using now". Well, this just isn't what I had in mind. :-)

So, I have another drive on its way from another manufacturer. Hopefully
that one will have a better driver! I'll post a report as soon as I've had
a chance to check it out.

With that, I must recommend *against* purchasing the 20MB external hard disk
that has been advertised by the liquidator/discounter Damark. Unless, of
course, you don't care about COM1 during disk access! The drive sometimes
goes under the model name "Drive 25" or "Flash 25".
