You can also use transparent GIF images as cursors, but sometimes it's
difficult to get the colors right this way (most GIF exporters dump
out a full color table even when only a few colors are actually used
in the image). This situation should be somewhat improved in 2.1.2,
where as long as there are two primary colors used in the image, the
odds are better that these will be correctly mapped to black and white
when the image is used as a cursor.
You can also import images with masks in PBM P1 or P4 (monochrome)
formats. I don't know any Windows programs that can export this
format (most can produce color PBMs, but not the other types), but xv
and the PBM utilities can do it on UNIX systems.
