I have made some further progress with plotting, but have another
question ;-)

OK, so now I am opening gnuplot as a process and passing instructions -
it works fine, and I can make a 'print plot' button to pass the postscript
to the printer etc. I have further discovered that the raw X11 plotting
instructions can be redirected from gnuplot to a file for example. What
I would like to do now is pass these back to MetaCard and try to use them
to draw the plot in my own window, where I could add point-and-click
controls etc.
