Opening a HyperCard stack in MetaCard

I am just beginning to use MetaCard. Could someone please
inform me of what is required to transfer a HyperCard stack
into MetaCard. I have moved the stack into my MetaCard
directory and tried to open it using the MetaCard 'file-open'
menu option. When doing this I get an error message saying
"not a MetaCard file".
